講演タイトル | "ADAPTATION STRATEGIES IN A CLONALLY EVOLVING FUNGAL PATHOGEN" <要旨> A hallmark of fungal pathogens is the ability to dynamically re-shape their growth and metabolism during the interaction with the host. The infection process is driven by rapid responses in cell signaling and gene expression as well as by long-term changes in genome structure. Understanding the molecular basis of this remarkable cellular and genetic plasticity is critical to control fungal disease. Our lab studies host adaptation in Fusarium oxysporum, a soil-inhabiting fungus that causes vascular wilt in more than a hundred different crops and life-threatening infections in humans. Strikingly, a single isolate of F. oxysporum can kill tomato plants, immunodepressed mice and the insect host Galleria. We use a combination of experimental evolution and reverse genetics to follow the dynamics of host adaptation and to identify the underlying molecular mechanisms, with a particular focus on MAPK-regulated invasive growth and on the role of transposons in the generation of genetic variation. |
